Make Your Home Cozy With Attractive Layered Fall Doormats

|

When decorating your home for fall, don’t forget the front door! Today I’m showing you how to make your home even cozier this fall with gorgeous layered fall doormats.

When it comes to decorating for fall, do you think about the front door of your home? I do! It’s actually one of my favorite places to decorate.

Why? Because it’s so easy to create a fun, super attractive look with just layered fall doormats. Yes, that’s right. All you need is just two items to take a boring front door to a festive fall welcome for your guests!

I originally shared this post back in September of 2019, but have seen so many new fall rugs and doormats that I felt this post needed a refresh! So today I updated this post with new fall rugs and doormats I’m sure you’re gonna love!

Here’s the layered fall doormat look I created for our home last season.

So simple but yet, so fall! I absolutely adore that Hey There Pumpkin doormat. It says fall without being overly in-your-face fall. Know what I mean?

So if you would like some tips on how to get your front door step fall ready, I have a few to share!

SET YOUR FALL LOOK

When shopping for a rug for the fall season, I like to stick with warmer colors. Of course, my first choice is always a neutral. My heart just adores stripes and I feel you can’t go wrong with classic black and white look.

But there’s a ton of other great styles and designs of rugs to use for fall!

Plaid is super popular this time of year. And depending on your color choices, the rug you buy could also be used into the winter months as well. So you may want to keep that in mind when selecting your style or theme.

Here are a few of my favorite fall rugs…

Shop Rugs: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

When shopping for an outdoor fall rug, I like to use a 3 x 5 size. Any smaller and your beautiful fall rug will completely be covered by the doormat.

If you go bigger to a 4 x 6, an average size doormat will look out of proportion.  If you’re door mat is on the larger size, a bigger rug may work just fine.

It’s just a good idea to keep the size of both items in mind when shopping. 🙂

TOP IT WITH FUN

The doormat is where you can really express your love for fall. You can say it ‘literally’ or just use lovely pattern like plaid. This year, my fall doormat is simple but clearly states I’m thinking about fall. 🙂

Shop Doormats: A | B | C | D | E | F

My advice, when selecting your fall doormat, don’t be afraid to have some fun! Go crazy with pretty fall colors or fall icons like pumpkins and leaves.

As long as your fall rug is more in the neutral zone, everything should compliment well.

Now all that is left is to combine them. Below, I created an image so you can see how I would mix and match my favorite fall selections.

I think my favorite fall combos (beside the one that’s on my porch this fall 😉 ) is 3/C and 1/B. I guess I’m just drawn to those stripes and the cute fall sayings. Which combo is your favorite?

And so far, this is all the fall decorating I’ve done to the outside of our home. But I think it’s a great start. Don’t those plum mums just make your heart happy? I realize that I featured plum last year but I loved it so much, I just couldn’t resist doing it again this fall.
