Layered Doormat Ideas For Fall Front Porch
Get your front porch ready for fall with these stylish layered doormat ideas. So many fun front door mat combinations!
I have a confession. I am absolutely in love with the layered rug look. Have been for years! This is one home decor trend that I just can’t stop. And I’m really hopin’ you don’t want to either. 😉
It’s just too fun. The combinations are endless. I could mix and match my favorite layering rug and door welcome mat all day long.
So, I had to create another fun post full of layered doormat ideas for the fall season.
Start With A Stylish Rug For Bottom Layer
Last year I created this fall look using one of my favorite outdoor rugs. I adore it so much that I’ve actually used it for multiple years and seasons. It’s just such a classic neutral style for the cozy season ahead!

So as you might guess, the bottom rug is the base for a stylin layered door mat look. And today I have a great selection of new outdoor rugs to help you create the foundation for this super popular front door trend.
When selecting base layer rug, it’s best to pick one that is made of durable material. I would suggest a flat weave rug that’s designed to be placed in an outdoor area.
As far as picking your rug color, I suggest a great neutral. Stripes are always my first choice when it comes to rug ideas (obviously) but you can’t do wrong with a cute plaid too!
NEUTRAL RUG SOURCES: black and white striped rug | handwoven rug | ivory and beige rug | plaid rug | white and black stripe rug | charcoal rug |
I always try to buy a rug sized 3×5 as well. I love the larger rug look with a smaller doormat. Just a personal preference for my front door area. 🙂
Next, Layer With a Fun Doormat For Top Layer
Now comes the fun part – selecting your doormat. I have had many different doormats throughout the years. You may wonder how many does one door need? 😉
I guess I’m more quick to swap them out from time to time because they are super inexpensive. Where as a rug is more of an investment.
This ‘Hey There Pumpkin’ doormat has been a big favorite of mine though. I’ve actually placed it on our front doorstep two fall seasons in a row!

Some years the fall doormats can be a hit or miss. But this year – I’ve found a ton of great mats for some awesome fall layered doormat ideas!
Here’s some of my favorite fall doormats:

Finally, Enjoy The Layered Doormat Look
Now that you’ve seen my rug and doormat choices, it’s time to make the layered doormat ideas come to life! Here’s the six different mat and rug combination I have created:
Which one is your favorite? Mine is combo #1 because it looks so good. The rug is like a pin-striped suit with a stylin hey there pumpkin doormat for the bowtie!
My runner up would be combo #5, the striped rug with the black pumpkins would be perfect for any front door!
