Try A Trend: Vintage Rugs
Give your home a unique look with stylish, one-of-a-kind, hand crafted vintage rugs. Learn why I gave this trend a try and how you can too without spending a month’s rent on a rug!
We all know how dynamic rugs can be when it comes to home decor. They can unify your color scheme, anchor your furniture, add warmth, comfort and can even be relocated from room to room. I’ve noticed that vintage rugs have been trending in popularity lately.
And after getting a few myself and doing some research, I now understand why everyone loves them so much.
So I’m going to share with you what I’ve learned and my top reasons why this trend is worth trying in your own home.
Vintage Rugs Are Unique
Have you noticed how one style of a rug can get super popular and then it seems like everyone has the same rug in their home? This may not bother you but if it does, vintage rugs are the answer.
Often vintage rugs are one-of-a-kind. So that means the vintage rug you select for your home, probably won’t be in your friends because it’s so much harder to find the same rug twice. This allows you to give your home a unique style that is all your own!
A Vintage Rug Will Last
One of the best features of a vintage rug is that it will LAST. A vintage rug is a long-treasured piece that’s been carefully worn and has stood the test of time. And with proper care, it will become an antique piece that can be enjoyed for ages.
I’ve bought multiple rugs over the years from discount department stores and I’ve learned – they just don’t hold up. Heavy traffic areas, the boys, the dogs and lots of every day accidents all takes its toll. Even with frequent professional cleanings.
So then I began to realize with all the money I was spending on disposable rugs, I could buy better quality vintage rugs. And these rugs would last for years and years to come. So much better investment!
Decorate With A Vintage Rug – No Matter the Size!
When shopping for a vintage rug you’ll notice they come in a variety of sizes which makes them perfect for any room. Runners are great for hallways, 5×8 work beautifully in the kitchen or entryway. And larger rugs are perfect for living room and bedrooms.
But sometimes the size and style you fall in love with may be too small for the room of choice. Or is it? Try layering a beautiful vintage rug on top of a larger rug. Yep, it’s totally legal (lots of people do it) and it can look soooo good if you find the right pairing.
The nearly no-fail way to attempt this is by choosing a natural jute-like rug as the large base and then layer a smaller rug (with a different color and material) on top. But if you want to go even more rogue, you can off-center them as long as a set of legs are on the rugs like pictured above.
There Are Affordable Vintage Rugs
At this point, you may be thinking, I’d love a vintage rug but I’ve heard they are so expensive. That’s what I thought too until I found a great place to shop for vintage rugs — Revival Rugs.
They’ve built a network of artisans and partners across Turkey who have access to one-of-a-kind vintage rugs, handmade with integrity. Rather than mark these up and sell them to other businesses, they decided to sell them directly to the consumer. They are the only online, direct-to-consumer vintage rug shop with operations in the US and Turkey. So the quality and price of their rugs is amazing!
I Tried the Trend
My new vintage rug arrived a few weeks ago and I was so impressed from the first unroll! Just look at this pretty repeating medallion pattern.
I selected a rug named Volkhart which had a beige color palette with touches of graphite gray, slate gray, and smokey gray. You know how this lady loves her gray!
This one-of-a-kind vintage rug, was handwoven and handknotted. It’s a low pile rug which is great for our living room since this area gets a ton of daily traffic. I’m in the process of switching out some of our living room furniture – so what better time to share a full view of the rug!
And the great news is my friends at Revival Rugs are having a great sale right now! It’s a More You Spend, the More You Save sale. Get 25% off orders from $2,000+, 20% off orders from $1,000 – $1,999, 15% off orders $500 – $999, or 10% off orders $0 – $499. Discount will apply automatically at checkout.
I do hope you give this trend a try and add a vintage rug to your home. If you don’t want to go in big on a larger rug, a small rug for the entryway or hallway is a great place to start!
