Ingredients Needed To Make Baked Apple Roses Recipe
I’m willing to bet you have everything you need to make this simple love day recipe.
Just a few ingredients…
The Steps To Make Apple Roses Puff Pastry
Now that you know what you need for this recipe, let me show you just how easy it is to make these beautiful apple roses!
It All Starts With The Apples
The first step, is to cut the apple in half and core out the middle. Then cut the apples into paper-thin slices.
Fill a bowl about half way full with water and lemon juice. Then place the apples into the water/lemon mixture. Microwave the bowl for about 3-4 minutes to soften the apples. Then using a colander, drain the water.
You can then set the apple slices aside to cool while you prepare the filling and puff pastry.
Next, Prepare the Filling
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon, set aside. In another small bowl, combine the apricot preserve and water. Stir to completely combine, set aside.
Now that we have the filling and spices all prepared, it’s time to work with the puff pastry.
Now, Prepare The Puff Pastry
To keep my work area clean, I like to lay out my thawed puff pastry on parchment paper. Using a rolling pin, shape the dough into a slightly larger rectangular shape.
Then using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into six equally sized strips.
With the puff pastry divided, it’s now time to combine everything to build our apple roses puff pastry.
Build The Apple Roses
Start by spreading a thin layer of preserves mixture on each puff pastry strip.
Once that’s completed, sprinkle some of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top. I didn’t measure this at all, just sprinkled away. 🙂
Now it’s time to place apple slices. Start by placing about 7 to 9 apple slices along one half of the puff pastry strip – overlapping one another. Make sure the apple peel side is facing out. This is going to give you the rose petal look!
Then once the apple slices are all in place, fold the remaining half of puff pastry over the apples like pictured below.
After all the puff pastry is folded over and covering the apple slices, start with one end and carefully roll dough. Be sure to keep the apples in place as you roll to the other end.
Seal the end of the roll by pressing the dough. Then you should have your first apple rose like pictured below.
Then place in a pre-greased muffin pan. Repeat these steps with all remaining strips of puff pastry. You should have six apple roses when finished.
Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees F for about 30-35 minutes.
Allow the pastries to cool for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the muffin cups and cool completely on a wire rack.
Top with a light dusting of powdered sugar or serve alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Every dessert tastes better when paired with sweet ice cream, in my humble opinion!
Love the recipe but not the taste of apricot? I have some great ideas and tips that can help!
Apple Roses Recipe Variations, Tips and Tricks
- If you are not a fan of apricot, there are several other variations you could try. A simple combination of maple syrup, sugar and cinnamon would be fantastic. Or you could swap the apricot preserves for a different fruit jam like strawberry, blueberry or apple.
- When it comes to preparing the apples, be sure to slice as thin as possible to insure they cook completely.
- Pastries can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days. If you’d like to reheat, simple place apple roses in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F and heat for 5-10 minutes until warmed through. (You can also microwave one for about 15-20 seconds but may lose some of their crispiness.)
