Beautiful DIY Half Bath Makeover Before and After
A before and after tour of a DIY half bath makeover with lots of inspiration for decorating a small windowless bathroom with a ton of style.
It took me awhile, but our DIY powder room makeover is finally finished and I am so excited to share with you the new modern look!
This bathroom gets a ton of traffic because it is on our main floor, so it’s the first choice for guests to use. So this powder room definitely deserves some extra love and modern style.

Side Note: It is so tricky to photo a super small space with no natural light! Unlike my last bathroom remodel, the skylight flooded the room with so much natural light, which helped me tremendously! So I ask for your grace on my photos.
Half Bath Makeover Before and After
Just in case you forgot what our small half bath looked like before the remodel, I wanted to share a photo to give you a reference.
This is what the half bathroom looked like the day we moved into the home.
Builder grade everything on old linoleum flooring. Drab and very basic. Not sure the previous owners do much more than add some paint on the walls.Â
Modern Half Bath Design Inspiration
So it was time to give this smaller space a new look. I got my design thinking cap on and came up with a plan to make this tiny bathroom more modern and also stay cohesive with the other new changes in the home.
I shared my design board along with lots of half bathroom decor inspiration.
So if you missed all of those powder room ideas, be sure to take a moment to check out that home decor inspiration found HERE.
Slate Tile Flooring
The first thing I did in this remodel was tackle the outdated linoleum floors. I love the look of the new giant slate tile! And I think this half bathroom is the perfect place to feature this special stone.
Every time I walk by this bathroom, the tile floor catches my eye. I have to confess: it makes my heart do a little smile. So I definitely think I made the right interior design choice with this selection.
And this tile is going to look so good in the finished laundry room as well. That makeover is on hold ’til after the holidays. But I will update this post with a link to that space once completed. 🙂

Beadboard Wall Treatment
After the tiled floors were in, I decided to work on the walls. First I gave the upper half of the wall a new look with fresh paint – Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. Then it was time to install the beadboard wall treatment.
This was such an easy DIY project that really made a big difference on this small bathroom in several ways.
First, the lines in the beadboard helps to draw the eye up with height of the wall. So even though we have rather standard 8 feet ceilings, the the bead board made the room look much bigger/taller.Â
Second, by covering 2/3 of the wall with the beadboard, it helped increase the feeling of more height as well. If I had stopped at half way, I think the room would feel smaller.
And finally, by painting the beadboard the same color as my trim – Sherwin Williams Divine White – it instantly whitened and brightened the whole room.

Modern Accessories
Once the floors and walls were completed, it was time to add the toilet back in and the new vanity base.
I love the modern, clean lines of this bathroom vanity. It adds some great depth and warmth to the bathroom along with some much needed storage in this small room.
I changed the hardware to compliment more of my matte black accessories like the toilet paper holder and hand towel holder as well. Heck, the toilet lever even got switched out for a matte black update!

The new tilt mirror is a super fun feature for this remodel bath too! And the vanity light – well – that was a little surprise.

The original sconce I had picked (and bought) for the room was suppose to ship rather quickly but then I was informed it would take over a month to arrive.
So I canceled that and found this gorgeous new light fixture and could not be happier. The best part? It was way cheaper! So win/win!
I even updated out light switches and plates. It didn’t cost a ton of money to do so and it was a rather easy switch.
Sometimes a little change, those tiny finishing touches can often make a big impact on a room. So many guests have already commented about how much they love the light switches!Â
