How To Make A Small Bathroom Look Luxurious

Have you always wondered how to make a small bathroom look luxurious? Here are six ways you can instantly change the look and feel of your bathroom.

Just because your bathroom may be lacking square feet doesn’t mean it can’t be big with luxury! Our hall bathroom is a small typical sized bathroom but with a few changes, we made the space feel totally different. Now it’s the most luxurious bathroom in our whole house!

So what are the secrets of how to make a small bathroom look luxurious? Here are six of the best ways to completely change the feel of your bathroom!

Natural Light

Luxury is all about embracing the best parts of nature, and that includes natural light. Let the light into your small bathroom and keep it flowing by incorporating uncovered windows, glass shower doors and even skylights or floor-to-ceiling windows if possible.

Adding a skylight was the first change we made to our bathroom to give this windowless room more light. This one addition made a huge difference in our bathroom. It instantly felt bigger and more luxurious!

The more sunlight that streams into your bathroom, the more open and inviting it becomes. And adding a skylight will draw the eye upward which will give the feeling of a much bigger room.

Paint Colors

If you can’t add more natural lighting to your bathroom, then let’s change the color. The paint color in a bathroom has the potential to dramatically change its overall feel. 

So if you want a more luxurious bathroom I suggest adding a fresh coat of paint in a calming neutral color. Some of the best choices would be whites, creams, and grays.

To me, nothing screams luxury quite like a white bathroom. It’s crisp, clean, and aesthetically pleasing which is always a plus. The beauty of keeping an all-white palette or a mostly white palette is the space will appear larger and more put together while still being elegant. 🙂

When applying this idea to our bathroom makeover, we already had a white tub. So when selecting my tile, I went with a mostly white marble and then painted the walls white as well. I knew these two choices would make the room feel much bigger and give it a cohesive modern, luxurious look.

Tile

Don’t under estimate the power of gorgeous tile. Small bathrooms are the perfect place to incorporate beautiful floor tiles for an instant luxurious feel. Because the square footage is so small, generally you can pick a more expensive or fancier tile and still stay in budget.

A dark color on the floor space is a great way to add contrast to a neutral white color throughout a bathroom. This is why I went with a black hexagon style tile in our bathroom makeover.

And let me tell you – the tile was such an easy way to update this space and make it a more luxury bathroom practically overnight.

In our shower we decided to tile all the way up to the ceiling. This simple change made our tiny bathroom feel huge! The first time I showered in our newly tiled shower I couldn’t believe how much bigger it felt. Same exact size. But the feeling was so much better, so more luxe!

This little trick of the eye gives this small bathroom an illusion of space and greater heights. So definitely keep this in mind when remodeling. 🙂

Focal Point

A little bit of wallpaper can go a long way, especially when it’s a bold neutral hue that works well with the décor already in the bathroom. Consider using wallpaper as a statement piece of the bathroom space.

I loved this neutral flower pattern for our bathroom but thought it might be too busy to use in the entire room. So instead, I added it to just one wall. It’s a focal point for the bathroom but it doesn’t take away from the clean lines and modern look of the rest of the room.

Natural Materials

The materials in bathroom can really add to the luxury feel. And to me, marble always feels luxurious!

So when I was creating our small bathroom design, I knew I wanted our shower tile to definitely be marble. Using natural elements like marble, stone and wood creates a stunning and calming effect. And that was the look I absolutely wanted!

We also replaced our vanity with a more modern new vanity that included a marble sink. This essential piece also added another simple touch of luxury to our very small bathroom.

Accessories Matter

When it comes to making a small bathroom feel luxurious, small changes and those little details can make a big impact on the space! Consider updating your shower head or towel bar with a more modern look.

In our bathroom, we replaced our old fixtures with a more high-end look. The matte black finish adds a striking contrast with the white marble and creates a very luxurious feel to the whole shower.

And I didn’t stop there with the accessories! I also replaced the toilet handle to just go that extra mile in giving the bathroom a cohesive look. All of these minor changes are key on how to make a small bathroom look luxurious. So don’t skip ’em! 🙂
