Simple Summer Home Tour 2020 – Part I
It’s here – home tour time and today I’m sharing part 1 of my simple summer home tour.
Once again, I’ve teamed up with the lovely Marty from A Stroll Thru Life along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our simple summer home tour decor with you. This is one of my favorite tours to be in and I’m always so grateful to be invited.
If you are stopping by from House by Hoff, welcome! I’m so glad you are here and I hope my tour will give you a ton of fun ways to add simple feels of summer to your home. So let’s get this summer home tour started with the front porch and then we will move inside. This post contains affiliate links.
Summer Front Porch
Our front porch is such a nice place to be on a sunny summer day. Heck, I even love to sit here when those summer afternoon rain storms arrive.
I wanted the theme for the front porch this year to be fern green. So of course, I had to have a couple of ferns. Years past I would hang them under the porch, which is nice look too. But this year I decided to flank the door with them in a set of black urns. And I’ve been loving all the show-stopping green they’ve been giving the front door area!
I found my ferns at Lowe’s this year. On a visit just last week, they still had a ton! So if you are looking for some for your home – check there first. They are like $18 bucks so you can’t be that price either. 🙂
For the front door step, I layered a fun striped rug with a new floral door mat. To say I am obsessed with the layered doormat/rug combo look would be an understatement. I’ve written several posts on how to combine them and even seasonal selections. It’s just such an easy way to update the look of your front door.

Seating Area
The side seating area of the porch also has some touches of green. But this time the green is not plants but throw pillows. The solid green canvas pillows make a great back drop for some sleek patterned black and white pillows. And they make the furniture super comfy too!
I always love to center this seating area with a nice rug. So this year, I took a rug that previously had been in my kitchen. Since this porch is covered, this rug can totally work in this space. It’s so soft too, which is super nice when I come out here because in the summer months I’m always walking around barefoot.
To add some fun live greenery to this side of the porch, I took a simple planter and filled it with some white impatiens. Super simple look but still will be fun to watch grow over the next few months. 🙂
When the evening arrives, the soft glow from the lanterns makes this the perfect place to sit back and just breathe summer in.
And here’s a view of the front porch I’ve never shared before. Here you can see the whole porch layout. It’s a small area but we try to make the most of it all year long.

Summer Kitchen
Now come on inside and let me show you a tour of our kitchen. I remodeled this area about four years ago (you can see the before here). It was the very first area in our home to get a new look because the heart of the home is here, right?!
The only big changes to this kitchen this summer is our new roman shades and some fresh flowers. I’ll get to those shades in a minute but first lets chat peonies and tulips.
I’ve never filled my floral vase with this combination of flowers before but I’m so glad I did. They both scream summer to me! And they fill the kitchen with a lovely pop of color.
Moving on to this inside corner of the kitchen where I added a new mini lamp. I’ve never had a lamp in the kitchen before but I love the soft glow it adds to the kitchen in the evenings.
If you’ve never had a lamp in your kitchen, give it a try! I have a great collection of lamps that are the perfect size for kitchens HERE.
Here you can see a peek of our new roman shade over the sink. I originally had faux wood blinds and decided to change it up for something more softer. I’m really happy with the switch. It does however make photographing this area more challenging. But I’m always up for a good challenge. 🙂
One of my favorite features of the new shade is that it’s cordless. So no cords to mess with or look at, which is a big win in my book. If you want more details about this new shade and my new woven shades in the living room, check out this post HERE.
This corner of the kitchen is pretty much the same except that my plant is still growing like crazy. I don’t know what I’m doing to make it so happy – so hopefully I don’t screw it up.
And that’s the tour of our kitchen. My summer touches were simple this year but yet hopefully you found some great summer inspiration for your home.
