Summer Home Tour – Master Bedroom and Kitchen
A gray neutral master bedroom and kitchen get a simple refresh for this summer home tour.
Welcome to our Summer Home Tour! Today I’ve teamed up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, along with some very talented blogging ladies to share a week long tour full of beautifully decorated summer homes. If you are visiting from ZDesign at Home, welcome! I absolutely love Bree’s modern and classic style. So now that you’re here, let’s get this summer home tour started!
I want to take you upstairs first for a view of the master bedroom with my simple summer decor additions.
The Summer Master Bedroom Decor
I love to updated the master bedroom with new bedding. But this time around, I challenged myself to give the bedroom a refresh with items in my home.
The only new items are those two striped pillows. I found them at Homegoods and love how they compliment my bedding. There’s lots of different patterns happening between the sheets, duvet and coverlet. But I love it. I think the complimentary gray color throughout each item helps it all work together beautifully.
For summer I added a pretty white flower plant on my bedside table. Combined with my favorite gray and white cement planter, it does my heart good!
Oops! Looks like I forgot to put away my old-age readers. When I turned 40, my eyes decided to start playing games on me. Now when reading, I have to wear glasses. Or I guess I could try to hold the book about 10 feet away from my face! lol Speaking of books, I just have to tell you about this book I started reading Girl, Wash Your Face. It’s like honest woman talk from like your BFF . It’s all about encouraging you to become who you where meant to be. I’m loving it so far and already highly recommend it!
I have a sneaky trick to share with you…
The coverlet at the end of the bed is actually a duvet cover with a gray quilt inside. I love both of my duvets and couldn’t decide which one to use. So I incorporated both! Such a great way to get multiple uses out of your bedding.
On the other side of the bedroom is our large dresser with my favorite maidenhair fern of all time. Why is it my favorite? Because I’ve been able to keep it alive since early Spring! That’s a pretty big record for me. 🙂
I really like our giant round mirror too. It’s my favorite place to stop and put on my rings and earrings before heading out for the day. I love the big reflection of light it gives the whole bedroom.
Just a few simple touches gave our bedroom a neutral summery look that my heart loves. And I did it all by simply shopping our home!

Now let’s move down stairs to my favorite room in the house, the kitchen!
The Summer Kitchen Decor
I kept my summer decor pretty simple in this room too! You guys, a deep cleaning – which it really needed – and a few flowering plants can help a ton when trying to bring the summer feel into a space.
I have a mini shamrock plant by my kitchen window that has been doing amazingly well! I love how it opens it’s leaves during the day and then folds them in at night. So cool.
The tiered tray got a simple summer refresh with a few white flowering plants and some bright, colorful lemons. They add a nice pop of color to the neutral gray of the kitchen and are great to have on hand for a few summer cocktails! 😉
My farmhouse sink is one of my favorite features in our home. Not that I live to do dishes, but this sink makes the job so much easier.
I’ve been looking for a new bread board the past few months. So when I saw this giant round board on sale, I snagged it! I would still like to add a couple more but I hesitate because how many bread boards does a kitchen really need?
My mini rose bush has a couple of blooms too, just in time for this summer home tour! I love the nice contrast it adds to this corner of the kitchen. I’m telling you, plants are really starting to grow on me as my new home decor go-to! No pun intended. Well….maybe a little. 😉
My little fern from last year is still growing strong too. It adds some lovely green to my organized kitchen tray. Every time I come over to this tray when cooking, I smile just looking at it.
A little from the heart…
I don’t usually share this full angle of my kitchen because I really dislike our black microwave and stove. Our plan is to eventually replace them with stainless steal. Since they still work, it seems kinda impractically to remove them just based on their appearance. So instead I try to look at them as a great reminder to love where you are in life. Our home is a constant work in progress and it’s already changed a ton! I need to appreciate what I have and just enjoy the journey of the transformation. 🙂
Oh! I have another room that has been simply refreshed for the new season too. I’d love for you to check out the summer dining room found here!

I hope I gave you a ton of inspiration for decorating your home for summer. Your home decor doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming. It just has to make your heart happy! 🙂

There is so much stunning simple summer decor inspiration for you to enjoy — not just now, but all week long! Happy home touring, friends!

Laura,

Thanks, Christy! I loved touring with ya!
I love your house! Your pictures really capture the beauty!
Thanks, Allyson! I’m trying to work on my photography skills, so I really appreciate your sweet comment!! 🙂
It looks like now you really have a green thumb! 😀 Your bedroom looks so cozy and inviting, well, your entire home does. Happy to be on the tour with you! ????
Thank you sweet, Cristina! I am really shocked that I’ve been able to keep so many plants alive! 😉
Love how all the subtle pattern mix in your bedroom, so pretty and adds so much texture and interest. I am also inspired by your use of one simple tray on the dresser. I need to copy that, I always seem to clutter mine up. Your kitchen is one of my favorites and your plants really are amazing. I don’t think the black appliances distract from your kitchen at all. I so appreciate you not replacing them for no reason. Thanks so much for joining the tour, your home is always full of ideas and inspiration.
Thank you so much, Marty! I love touring with you, it’s always so much fun! 🙂
What a fabulous tour Laura! I love the bright pops of summery yellow paired with the gray. It feels so fresh!
Thanks, Laura! I had to add a little color somewhere! lol 🙂
Just beautiful! I am in love with your gray cabinets, white subway tile, and white countertops! Such a nice contrast!
Thank you so much, Doreen! So nice to be touring with you once again! 🙂
Your bedroom and kitchen are just beautiful and so welcoming! I love the patterns on your bed, they totally work! And your kitchen…. you have black appliances as your eyesore? Mine is my whole kitchen! haha. My husband won’t let me update anything in it..it’s a little hard 🙂
Thank you, Alicia! I just love your comment…just another reason to be grateful! (And I totally get the husband thing. They can struggle sometimes seeing our interior design visions! 😉 )
laura- i totally get the readers….wait till you turn 50. Your bedroom and kitchen look so pretty …and ready for summer. I ‘m so glad that your fern is hanging in there!
Ha! I’ll probably be blind as a bat by 50! 😉 Loved touring with you!
Laura- your home is beautiful and I love your blog! I will be joining the tour later this week, so much fun!

Laura your home is so pretty! I love that you challenged yourself to use what you have for your bedroom. I always think those rooms turn out the best! Your kitchen is so bright and happy, I am crushing on those white flowering plants and how you styled your tiered tray. You have wonderful accessories!
Have a great summer!
I love your kitchen! And so glad to hear you recommend “Girl, Wash Your Face!” I follow Rachel online and was wondering about it!
It’s absolutely lovely, Laura, and you are so right about your appliances and how much progress you’ve already made in your beautiful home. Our homes are definitely works in progress, just like we are. I have the dreaded black appliances, too, so I feel you!!
I love all of your summer decor ideas Laura!! Your decorated tiered tray is so beautiful and your summer bedroom is just so dreamy!! Happy summer friend!! Xo Heather

I absolutely love your bedding! Can you tell me what color trim is on the duvet? English grey or dove grey? Thanks.
Thank you! I would say it’s more linden dove grey. The duvet is from Crane and Canopy. Hope that helps! 🙂
Hi. I was just wondering if you used the slats that came with the bed under the boxspring. I’m just trying to get some experience from someone who owns this bed. Thanks.
Hi Andrea! Yes, we did use the slats and then laid the box springs on top of those. If you have more questions, just let me know! 🙂
What is the height of your matress and boxspring? Thanks.
Andrea, I sent you an email but I’m not sure it went through. If you didn’t get it…let me know. 🙂
