Modern Summer Front Door Decorating Ideas
Summer will be here soon! So check out all my summer front decorating ideas so your home looks fresh and updated for the warmer months ahead.
Well, it’s official. My front door has got the summer vibe going on! Last week I gave the front porch a good cleaning and then started switching out my decor to create a more modern summer front door look. As always, I kept it simple and neutral. And I’m so in love with the pretty green updates. It’s all classic summer decor on a low budget!
You can probably guess by now that my theme this year is focused on gorgeous green ferns. Some are fresh, some are faux but all are perfect for a summer front door decor!
When it comes to decorating my front door for the seasons, there are three areas I like to change. So today I’m going to discuss more about those three specific areas and share my favorite picks to help you get your front door ready for summer too!
Summer Wreaths
This year I wanted to keep my door decor super simple. So I decided to add fun faux fern wreath to our front door. It adds some great color to a rather boring door and doesn’t need any watering. 🙂
But if you want a different look, I found a ton of great summer wreaths too! Shop my favorites here:
Front Door Layered Doormats
Now this is where things can get really stylin! I’ve been shopping all the new summer outdoor rugs/doormats and having so much fun layering them together. My striped rug is from last year but I did buy a new doormat. I love the stripe and flower print combo! Such a great summer front door match made in heaven. 🙂
There’s really a ton of lovely combos you can mix but if you’re not sure how to best pair rugs and doormats, be sure to check out my layered doormat tutorial by clicking HERE. Lots of good tips and examples for you to feast your eyes on.

And last but definitely not least…
Planters Full of Greenery
Keeping with my fern theme, my front door planters were filled with -you guessed it- two Boston ferns. Ferns on the front porch is such a traditional summer look. In years past, I’ve assembled some pretty fun flower combos but I decided to just go really simple with these gorgeous green options this summer. Planters are such a great decorating staple for the front door step.

I can’t wait to see how big these ferns will get this summer. I hope they actually get so large, they’ll touch the ground!!! 🙂

So this is final look of my summer front door. I may tweak it a little when I finish decorating the whole front porch this weekend. I had planned on sharing our seating area to the right with you today as well. But the pillows I ordered back in the middle of April just now shipped.
So the final reveal of the whole summer front porch is coming in a later post – stay tuned!

Hi Laura,
What size mat did you use for your striped mat?
Looks amazing! I just did a post on my urn planters! laura
Hi Laura! I’ve found 3×5 is a great size for the rug. Any smaller and I feel the rug gets hidden under the doormat. Hope that helps! Love your name by the way. 🙂
I love the simple beauty of these ideas! You can never go wrong with good greenery!!
I love these great ideas – so crisp and classic with the ferns. I always like adding ferns to our summer porch, as well!
