It’s no secret that I love a good doormat layering combo! When the seasons start to change, I get super excited just thinking about all the new rug and doormats that will be appearing! Looking back at last summers home tour I realize, it was one of my favorite matches to date.

So I first introduced the idea of layering doormats in the fall season. But now that it’s almost June, I wanted to revisit this idea with some fun, new summer door decor.

So I shopped around and put together six different doormat layering combos. I’m really hoping these combinations inspire you when it comes to decorating your front door this summer because I have so much fun creating these doormat layering mockups. 🙂 Strange I know, but true!

So let me show you the summer doormat layering matches I put together…

So pretty right?! Now that I’ve shown you the combos, let me share my tricks and tips to getting the perfect doormat layering marriage!

Rugs – The First Layer

When picking rugs, I’m always drawn to neutral colors. And for a crisp summer look, I thought rugs with navy would be perfect.

Rugs with stripes are always my first pick, but a nice textured gray or a fun checkered pattern can be lovely too. My tip is to keep the rug design simple and go bigger – at least 3 x 5. I’ve seen smaller rugs used but my personal preference is more rug! 🙂

Doormats – The Second Layer

The doormats are where I like to incorporate more design. For the summer, I picked colorful lemons, playful leaf patterns and stylin’ cross stripes. Or if you like to keep it simple – hello – is all you need!

Most doormats are sized around 2 x 3 which I think works perfectly with a bigger rug. But you can go bigger if you find a doormat that you just adore. Because you already have a bigger rug (3 x 5), a larger doormat won’t look overwhelming or out of proportion.
