The Laundry Room Reveal
I am really excited to finally share with you my almost
finished laundry room!
I say ‘almost’ because I still have a few
accessories I want to add.
But I think my whole vision for this room is
complete enough for me to do a little
show and tell. 🙂
So first up…the showing.
Are you shocked by the color?
I decided to paint the walls a turquoise, just for fun.
It’s the laundry room, it needs all the fun it can get!
The color is called Simply Aqua and I think it is simply divine.
To really see how much this space was transformed,
we need to go back to the past where
builder grade wire shelves was all this room had ever seen.
An ugly, cheap-o light made this space less than fab.
And the lack of storage was just a waste.
One cabinet was all the builders gave us,
aren’t they generous?
So I ripped out the wire shelving–lots of fun by the way. 🙂
I moved this back cabinet to the wall over the washer and dryer.
I then went to Lowes and used my Swagbucks to buy another matching cabinet.
I could have upgraded to better cabinets,
but I was trying to get the most bang for my buck.
It was then time to hang the cabinets on the wall.
Was I scared? Uhhhh…yea!
My husband was super scared cause he was going
to be the one holding them up!!
But I discovered a great tool to make this job
of hanging cabinets way easy. Super easy.
(Sorry for the bad lighting….it made my walls appear green, which they are not.) |
The trick is to screw a 2×2 board of wood
(leveled and at the desired position for the bottom of the cabinets)
into the studs in your wall.
Then you simply lift your cabinets up and place them
on the wood board to rest while you drill your cabinets
into the wall.
How’s that for an awesome ‘tip of the day’?
I also dressed up the cabinets with new matching
hardware for all. It’s the little things that can add nice touches.
Once my cabinets were installed,
I simply made two shelves for the space in between.
You know, for pretty things. 🙂
I love this sign…because it’s kinda true.
The basket on the second shelf above the light
is where I place lost partners.
You know…socks without mates.
Sounds like a charitable organization! lol.
For the long shelf directly over the washer and dryer,
I simply installed 3 L-brackets into studs
and placed a board on top.
I did this to hide the water connections
and for a place to add some more pretties and a little lamp.
Why do I need a lamp?
I do laundry at night, a lot.
So instead of using the bright chandelier
(which I love by the way, not only because
I got it on sale for less than $40 from Home Depot,
but because it just adds a nice look to the room.)
I turn on the lamp and close the door.
That way I have a reminder so I don’t go to bed and leave
my washer full of wet clothes.
I had to place a few pictures to add some more fun to this space…
Oh, I also wanted to show you my secret laundry weapon
in the cabinet above my washer.
The turquoise pouch hanging on this inside of the door
holds a printable stain remover chart from Martha.
I found the pouch at Staples in part of Martha’s signature collection.
Now I am ready for whatever stain may come my way. 🙂
Guess what? There’s more behind the door to show you…
I found that cute iron board cover at Target.
My old cover was so ready to retire. See ya!
The large cabinet I found at Target.com and I used
my saved gift cards from previous purchases to
buy this guy.
I store my extra towels and linens in here because my
home is without a linen closet.
The fabric box on top of the cabinet is where
I store my cleaning supplies- my cleaning caddy if you will.
A cleaning caddy really does make cleaning so much easier and faster
(this was the first tip I shared with you in my April cleaning series).
The rug is from Crate and Barrel.
It used to be in my guest bathroom,
but I like it here…it just feels good on the footsies.
Last but definitely not least, my drying rack.
I love, love, love this rack.
A few weeks back,
Many of you have shared your love for this project,
which always makes my heart smile. 🙂
If you are still debating on whether or not you would use this rack,
let me tell you… I am using it all the time.
Right at this very moment I am using it to line dry some shirts.
If you make this, I promise you will fall in love like I did.
Especially if you have a small laundry room like mine.
Funny…I still catch myself from time to time trying
to use the lid from my washer to line dry. Silly Laura!
I am really enjoying my new laundry room.
Not only does it feel bigger,
but I have a ton more storage.
Plus, it’s just more bright and cheery.
Laundry isn’t usually fun,
but a fun room sure does help! 🙂

I love the color (I painted my library the same color!) and the lamp is brilliant. As I read this I realized I never moved my rags from washer to dryer last night! Oops:)

I like your pretty new room. The shelf and the drying rack make it perfect. I’ve pinned it.
Beautoful Laundry room with some great tips and advice. As ugly as those wire shelves are I need mine to line dry clothes (I rarely use the dryer for clothing!). I really do like the shelf to hide the water connections and that’s something I may have to try. Thanks!

My laundry room is exactly the same color. I ADORE it. I wouldn’t ever put it anywhere else. It reminds me of fabric softener. Your room came out beautifully.
Absolutely love the color and the ironing board cover coordinates perfectly! I think you did an amazing job and I have laundry room envy.

I love your laundry room! We recently made over our laundry room and I used a similar turquoise on the walls. It’s so happy & fun! I stenciled our concrete floors, too. It’s amazing what a great makeover can do in a space like this. It’s (almost) enjoyable to do laundry now! 🙂 Your room turned out great!
I love it. Your color has me wanting to paint my laundry room!
Love it. Looks like a fun place to go now.
I love this. I would have to make that my special spot and put a nice chair in there.
I love it. Great idea for the bench above the machines. I so need to do something like this.

If you didn’t have a washer and dryer in there, it looked like it could be any room in the house. It’s so inviting and warm. I love the turquoise color, I think of a warm day! Thanks for linking up with Turn it Up Tuesday.
What an inviting laundry room. Right now I do my laundry in a dark, cold, unheated, unfinished, depressing basement. I dream of a comforting, homey laundry room like that someday. Many blessings to you. Good job on the basement.
I love the color you chose for the walls! What a bright and cheery space. We are going to be making some updates to our laundry room soon. Thank you for the inspiration. (And thanks for linking up to The Creative Exchange!)
xo,
Laura

This is so cute! I wish we painted the walls in our laundry room a fun color when we recently painted our whole house 🙁 We painted the laundry room white and it’s BORING! I need to add a stripe accent wall or something!
Wow looks amazing! You done such a great job, its like a completely different room! Great inspiration.
I love color so I embraced this immediately. I get weary of all the gray rooms out there. They are beautiful but everyone needs some pizazz in their lives, what better place than the laundry room.
Color me inspired. 😀
Pamela
