Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs with Marinara Sauce
Nothing says comfort food like the traditional plate of Spaghetti and meatballs. But this lady has decided to give that classic meatball a new twist! Today I have a recipe that turns ordinary meatballs into “OMG! Now That’s What I’m Talking About Meatballs!”
My Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs are perfect for topping on a bowl of pasta or pair perfect with a side of marinara for dipping. Either way your tummy will be thanking you!
I served these last night with a giant plate of spaghetti for dinner. All my boys loved this new twist on the original meatball recipe. It’s impossible to go wrong with meat stuffed with cheese, right?! 😉
If you’re not a big fan of pasta you could also eat these meatballs all by themselves with a little marinara sauce for dipping. Talk about the perfect appetizer for all your upcoming parties. 😉
I love a good marinara sauce! If you do too, there’s a contest you need to enter! Food(dot)com’s Ready. Set. Cook! challenges home cooks to create new and unique recipes featuring Ragu. Be sure and check it out here!
Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs with Marinara Sauce
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes
Serves 4 (about 3 meatballs per person)
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 large egg and 1 yolk
1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
1 teaspoon garlic
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
3 mozzarella cheese sticks (chopped into into inch long pieces)
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Chop your mozzarella sticks (aka string cheese) and set aside in the freezer.
In a medium bowl combine the beef, eggs, bread crumbs, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, pepper and salt. Form into balls. Remove the cheese from the freezer and push a piece in the center of each meatball, surrounding the cheese entirely with the meat.
Place meatballs on a greased baking sheet and place in the oven to bake for 20 or until meat is cooked and cheese is slightly melted.
Serve on top of pasta dish or with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
