Banana Split ~ But With A Twist

Dessert…it’s such a wonderful thing.
On my vacation in Mexico, we had some type of dessert every single day!
Sometimes we enjoyed it at the restaurants or if we were lazy,
we would just order room service. 🙂
One particular restaurant though offered banana splits.
When my friend saw that on the menu, he went ecstatic!
He couldn’t remember the last time he had enjoyed a good old-fashioned banana split.

So today I am sharing a recipe inspired by that traditional
ice cream treat we all know and love.
My Banana Split Dream Dessert has all the sweet flavors
of a regular banana split, except in a pie.

We had this dessert after dinner last night and get this…
my husband actually went back for seconds!

What makes this dessert so special is the layers fruit.
It starts with bananas and pineapple, then a sweet row of strawberries.

The only thing needed to complete this dreamy dessert in style
is a delicate layer of chocolate sauce drizzled on top.

Oh my goodness! You know this lady loves her chocolate.
This dessert is a dream to make and eat. It may even beat the original banana split!
There’s only one way to find out…. {hint, hint}

Recipe: Banana Split Dream Dessert
Prep Time: 20 minutes Chill Time: 4+ Hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 graham cracker crust
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 cup strawberries, halved
  • 10 oz. crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1/2 chocolate sauce

Instructions:

1) Whip the cream until it forms peaks.

2) While that is whipping mix the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla in a bowl.

3) Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture and place 1/2 of filling into the pie crust.

4) Slice bananas and arrange on top of the filling. Spoon drained pineapple over bananas.

5) Top with remaining filling.

6) Arrange the strawberry halves in rows across the the top. Then drizzle with chocolate sauce.

7) Cover and refrigerate for 4-6 hours.

I ask you, who can resist a banana split?!
