A Big Boy Room Makeover Reveal!

| | |
I am happy to inform you that the room is finally done!
It has made a big transformation from the nursery days to a big boys Pirate/Nautical themed room.
I just finished taking a few hundred pictures to share with you.
I hope you will agree that a good before and after can be pretty amazing!

To see how far this room has come, we have to travel back in time.
Way back, to the toddler years…

(Sorry the picture is not the best quality, it’s the only one I could find from back then.)

Now when you look into the room the first thing you see is the bed and built-in bookcases.

That one wall has made a huge change people. HUGE.

The colors have changed from sage flat and glossy stripes to
sweet baby blue and deep rich navy.
(Ya, I was smart and painted the walls before I installed the built-ins.)
The custom built-ins not only center the bed,
but also provide a ton of storage for all of little man’s toys.
One of my most favorite, favorite items in this room is the bedding.
It was the first thing I bought for the remodel and it became my inspiration for the whole entire room.
I love the way it looks with the new custom headboard.
The quilt and matching pillow sham were purchased at Pottery Barn Kids.
I did get them on sale, but they were still a little on the expensive side.
The sheets I found at Macy’s (which were also on sale).
I knew I wanted to accent with the color red.
When I found this printed sheet set with a mixture of blue and red sharks,
I had to snatch them up ’cause they were PERFECT for this room.

We all know a Pirate/Nautical themed bedroom would not be
complete without a super adorable shark, right? Right!
We all love Mr. Shark. 🙂

This room used to be the land of the dinosaurs at one time, but they went extinct.
Now we are swimming with the fishes! 🙂
Right above the bed is my next favorite thing in this room…the spray painted wall scones.

They used to be in our master bedroom but I decided
to give them a new look for a new room.
I absolutely love how they turned out and little man is so happy to have them in his room.

I had fun accessorizing the bookcases with pops of red.

The picture frames were leftover from the dino room.
All I did was add new mats and a few treasured black and white photos.

The boat full of ‘loot’ was a Birthday gift from the grandparents.
And of course, no Pirate room is complete without a picture
of the most adorable little three-year-old-Pirate.
(The best Halloween costume yet!)
I even saved the hat (it’s hanging on the corner of a picture frame).
I couldn’t resist the blue poke-a-dot whale money bank I found at Homegoods.
Saving money is now a whale of a good time! (Ha ha!)
The other major change in this room was the opposite wall.

The striped wall was transformed into a wood plank wall.
A little whitewashing and a fun Ahoy sign completed the look.

More red was added to the room with this no-sew Roman shade.
On the same wall as the window is where I added the Pottery Barn inspired Utility Boards.

Across from that wall is where Pirate Bob lives…

I think this fish tank is the coolest.
The mirror rim reflects the light from the window and of course, I had to add red gravel. 🙂
Oh, and I am happy to report that this “Bob” is doing great!

No Pirate themed room would be complete without a ship…

I love this storage basket I picked up at Target years ago,
it’s one more ‘mom approved’ place to stash the toys!

This room really has come a long ways from the toddler days…

My son’s room is now bursting with color and organization.
He actually spends more time playing in his room.
Which means more of his toys are staying in his room too.
That makes this mom very happy!

I hope you enjoyed watching the whole process unfold.
Thanks for coming along for the ride! 🙂
