A Big Boy Room Makeover Reveal!
Way back, to the toddler years…
(Sorry the picture is not the best quality, it’s the only one I could find from back then.)
Now when you look into the room the first thing you see is the bed and built-in bookcases.
The custom built-ins not only center the bed,
but also provide a ton of storage for all of little man’s toys.
It was the first thing I bought for the remodel and it became my inspiration for the whole entire room.
I love the way it looks with the new custom headboard.
I had to snatch them up ’cause they were PERFECT for this room.
We all love Mr. Shark. 🙂
They used to be in our master bedroom but I decided
to give them a new look for a new room.
I absolutely love how they turned out and little man is so happy to have them in his room.
I had fun accessorizing the bookcases with pops of red.
And of course, no Pirate room is complete without a picture
of the most adorable little three-year-old-Pirate.
(The best Halloween costume yet!)
I even saved the hat (it’s hanging on the corner of a picture frame).
Saving money is now a whale of a good time! (Ha ha!)
The striped wall was transformed into a wood plank wall.
A little whitewashing and a fun Ahoy sign completed the look.
More red was added to the room with this no-sew Roman shade.
On the same wall as the window is where I added the Pottery Barn inspired Utility Boards.
Across from that wall is where Pirate Bob lives…
The mirror rim reflects the light from the window and of course, I had to add red gravel. 🙂
Oh, and I am happy to report that this “Bob” is doing great!
No Pirate themed room would be complete without a ship…
I love this storage basket I picked up at Target years ago,
it’s one more ‘mom approved’ place to stash the toys!
This room really has come a long ways from the toddler days…
My son’s room is now bursting with color and organization.
He actually spends more time playing in his room.
Which means more of his toys are staying in his room too.
That makes this mom very happy!
I hope you enjoyed watching the whole process unfold.
Thanks for coming along for the ride! 🙂

Oh, how I LOVE this room! So perfect in every way 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
I just love this space, Laura! I bet you can’t wait to decorate for the new addition! 🙂
Love the room! I’ve been slightly obsessed with the PB bedding for years and now that I have a son, it may just need to be purchased. Hubby hates it but I think I’ll win!
Obsessed with the wall aquarium! Where did you find it?
Isabella, I found it on Amazon! 🙂
Oh my gosh! What an amazing room! I thought the bookcases and such around the bed were great, but that opposite wall is stunning too! And I love your window shade!
The room looks great! Love how you took advantage of the space.
Oh what a fabulous makeover. I love it. This is a room that can grow with him for years. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.

The room is absolutely beautiful!!!
This went really gorgeous Laura! My snuggle angel is 5yo and I’m gonna have to do this in the future. Thanks for the inspiration! I’ve added this to my pocket!
I have just come over from Hometalk after viewing your makeover with the lampshades and the fittings – and it was lovely to see more pictures of your Son’s Bedroom – you have made a superb job of his room and not only beautiful bedding and wall sconces, but all of his room and all the other details you put in it. It looks absolutely beautiful – everything – thanks for sharing 🙂
Denise, thank you so much for leaving such a sweet comment. My son’s room was a project very dear to my heart. And having someone else share how much they liked it, makes it feel even more special. 🙂
You’ve got the right mix of colors in his room! Love the headboard against all that white and the red lamp shades add a lot of pop! Beautiful.
Great job, thanks for sharing on craft schooling Sunday!
Absolutely love it! So fun and bright. Perfect!
Thank you, Brooke! 🙂

Great job – love the colour choice and the bedding. One day I’ll get around to changing my son’s room to be a bit more “grown up” and this is fantastic inspiration. Found your post at the Saturday Sharefest
Love how you built the bed in with the bookshelves. Looks so grownup. Thanks for sharing at the #ThisIsHowWeRoll Link Party.
