21 Days To A Clean Organized Home: Day 10 – Customized Kitchen Utensils Drawer
I love to keep my utensils close and within reach. And oh friends, there are so many creative ways to do just that…
Unlike my drawer, that has become a disorganized mess…
I had an idea to turn that mess into a thing of professional beauty one step at a time. The first step was to take everything out…
And when I did, I was left with this…
Second step…clean that baby!
And then it was time for the third step…get my boards. Six boards to be exact at a $1.73 each.
I wanted to make sure I measured every thing correctly. So I started with the spot for the rolling pin and then designed the space from there. I made all my cuts with my miter saw. Then I placed the pieces in to give me a rough layout. Once I was happy…I pulled out the glue to seal the deal. 🙂
This glue is the best. Super strong hold and it dries clear. One of my favorite BFF’s when working with wood.
After the glue dried, which was about 1O minutes. I then sorted my utensils into three piles: keep, donate and throw out. I then placed the keepers back in the my new drawer…
See that special spot made for my rolling pin? And I made a little spot just for measuring spoons too…cause I always seem to be misplacing those little guys!
The first slot on the upper left holds all my ‘spoon’ type utensils. Next to that is the knives and the smaller spot next to the knives holds scissors, cork screw and can opener. Above that space, I made a small pocket for measuring cups.
Next was a slot for unusual things like ice cream scoopers, pizza cutters, and a garlic press. Beside that is mostly baking items like brushes, whisks and spatulas. And next to that is 3 small side spots. Everything has its place and life is good!
My husband came home, saw the drawer and said, “Wow, it looks so professional. Like a pro built it!” So, I guess my name from now on is Pro! Ha!
This project was so easy. It took me a total of 45 minutes from start to finish. And it only cost me a whopping $10.50 for a customized utensil drawer.
I hope you now feel inspired to organize your utensils. However you do, whether it be a crock next to the stove or in a drawer, make it work for you!

what type of wood did you use for your dividers? where did you buy them? pre-cut depth was what?
