2022 Home Project Goals
Today I’m sharing all my home project goals for the new year. Here’s hoping for a really productive 2022!
You know the saying, “If you aim for nothing, you’ll hit it every time.” Well, I’m aiming to get some things done in this new year. Last year was not a very productive year for me when it came to home updates. So I decided to make some home project goals and share them with you. Hopefully this will help me to stay focused on my goals and give you some home updating inspiration at the same time. 🙂
Basement – Open Stairway and Close Storage
So this will be one of our biggest home project goals of the year. But it has been on the to-do list forever!
A little back story… our basement was partly finished by a previous owner and they decided to close in the doorway to the basement with a door. Well, that makes this space extremely hard to access. Big furniture like a sectional or couch doesn’t even have a chance of making it down here.
So this wall below (right about where the light switch is located) will be removed back a couple feet or more to open the door way and make the basement more of an extension of the home.
Then we will install a door next to the stairs that will close off an open storage area behind the stairs. It’s all going to look so much better! And I can’t wait to get this project started because we need new flooring in the basement desperately. But I didn’t want to install anything new until the doorway structure was changed and finalized.
Home Gym
You may remember this room from like three or four years ago. I was going to create a playroom for the boys. Well…those plans just kinda fizzled away and I started thinking about making this room into a spare guest bedroom. But here’s the deal. Nobody ever comes to visit so it seems kinda silly to dedicate a room to ‘nobody’. 😉
Our oldest, Sebastian is now 15 and he’s all into working out and getting buff. And I really want to get my body back in shape – been feelin’ so ugh lately. So we all decided that a home gym would be a better use of this room. (And I was super excited to see on my reader survey that some of you where looking for more ways to get exercise into your day. If you haven’t completed the survey yet, you can HERE!)
I’ve already begun ripping out the corner shelf cabinet unit installed/built by previous owners. And can’t wait to add some fun changes that will make this space look and feel more like a gym.
The plan is to remove the carpeting and put in a rubber gym floor. I’m also going to install some French doors to close off the room and separate it from the basement lounge area. Add in a few workout essentials, maybe some wall mirrors and this room is going to be a fun before and after on a low budget!
Front House Curb Appeal
The front of our home could use a few new updates as well. Our front porch needs some paint touch-ups. We could just touch up the color, but I would love to actually repaint the trim of our home a lighter color – like off-white. But not sure if that is in the plans just yet.
Along with paint, I’d like to update our garage sconce lights and house numbers. It’s all in those little details right!
I already purchased some new flower seeds to plant around our front ash tree. Yup, everything I planted in there two years ago died last summer. UGH! Gardener I am not – but I keep trying. 🙂
And we need to regravel our landscaping both in the front and back yard. So that’s on the list too.
Living Room Flooring
Our carpet is so old. It’s most likely the original carpet of the home. So another one of our home project goals is to start by replacing the carpet in our living room first. You may remember when we installed new flooring in our dining room, kitchen and entryway that adjoins the living room. Well now, that flooring has been discontinued. So do we go with carpet or replace all the flooring or try to match it? Ugh!
We are not sure what to do. I’m going to keep searching to see if I can find a match to our floors, as that would really be ideal! (fingers crossed!)
Garden and Backyard Landscaping
Our little garden that we built a few years ago has done us well – especially last year. So we are thinking about added a couple more.
We are thinking to build one by our trampoline and then finish the landscaping on this side of the backyard as well.
Powder Room and Laundry Room Update (Phase I and II)
So our powder room and laundry has been an area I’ve wanted to update forever for several reasons. First the bathroom toilet is older than heck, runs all the time and just causes a ton of problems. And the sink/vanity is starting to have it’s own problems too.
Secondly our laundry machines are close to 18 years old and need to be replaced. And I would absolutely love more storage in this area. Even though the room is super small – I know it could be used more efficiently.
I would love to turn our powder room into more of this style. But I haven’t really narrowed down the look I’m going for just yet. 🙂
So to keep in budget, I think this project will be divided into phase I and II. First I will update the flooring throughout both spaces and then focus on the bathroom. I’ll save the laundry room until we can save up more funds. Hopefully my machines can hang in there a little longer or an amazing sale comes along! 🙂
And I think that’s it. There will obviously be some smaller room updates or changes throughout the year. You know me – I love to switch things around. So, I hope you will stay tuned throughout 2022 to see how these new home project goals turn out.
