Master Bedroom Refresh
A master bedroom gets a fresh look with a new wall color and some wonderful new decor items!
Last week I shared with you my design board and inspiration for our master bedroom refresh. And finally today I’m sharing the reveal! I partnered with my friends at Joss and Main on this little refresh and I’m in love with the new look of the room.
And for even more bedroom inspiration, I’ve also teamed up Marty from A Stroll Thru Life! If you just hopped over from Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage, welcome! I’m so excited to show you how our bedroom got a fun new look with the power of paint and some lovely new accessories.
The Paint Color
The first thing I did for this bedroom refresh was change the wall color. Before we had Lazy Gray which I thought I’d love. (Here’s a picture of our room before the refresh.)
But after about a month I realized the color was much too blue for my liking. And even though I didn’t like it – I waited for three whole years to repaint! Don’t be like me – life is too short to wake up to the wrong paint color for years.
So the room got two coats of beautiful Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore and I’m obsessed! It’s made the room instantly look bright, bigger and so more modern.
One surprise I discovered while painting was the contrast that occurred between the Swiss Coffee and the existing trim and door color Divine White. The Divine White didn’t look ‘as white’ anymore but more of a soft taupe.
This new look definitely wasn’t planned but I really like the subtle contrast. So as you might guess, this new paint color is here to stay (or at least for the next three years!).
The Rug
The next change I made was switching out our shag rug for a new vintage rug! My decor plan for most of this room was pretty neutral because I wanted this rug to be the show stopper of the room.
Not only do I love the design but the colors in the rug too. They add so much richness to the bedroom. And just so you know, if you are looking for a new rug, Joss and Main has a fantastic collection of rugs just like this one. This rug here is very similar to mine!
The Bedding
We’ve owned the same duvet for years so I was ready to update our bedding too! When my eyes saw this linen reversible duvet, I instantly fell in love. White linen, what’s not to love?
It’s so soft and lightweight which is perfect for the hot summer months. The linen also gives the bedding a nice textured look which I really like as well!
I’ve never had all white bedding before but now that I do, I see why it’s a popular. It just makes for a more clean look and allows your bedding accessories like pillows and blankets to steal the focus of the bedding decor.
The Reading Nook
I created this little reading nook in our bedroom a few years back in a previous master bedroom refresh. But there was always something missing. And finally, I realized that every reading nook needs some lighting!
This swing arm floor lamp is perfect for this spot. It has a 3-way switch which is so nice. The low setting is great for the evenings when I want to give our room a soft glow. And the higher settings are ideal for when I’m reading my favorite interior decorating books. 🙂
Next to the reading nook, I added a few new accessories to our dresser as well.
The white ceramic vase was actually green on Monday. Can you believe that?! I gave it a fun makeover and I will be sharing the tutorial with you tomorrow. So be sure to come back for that DIY.
I can’t believe how different this room feels with just the simple change of paint and a few new accessories. There are a couple of new items that didn’t arrive in time for the reveal; my curtains and a pillow. So I will be updating this master bedroom refresh when they do!
And now, I have even more bedroom inspiration for you as promised. Next on the tour is Life on Cedar Lane. And be sure to check out all the Summer Bedroom Tours below happening this week!

What a fresh, contemporary look. I adore the leather stools. Bravo!
Love the color, my house is painted in Swiss Coffee too and it really is a great color. Your bedroom looks so pretty and I love the black, white and luggage tan colors. That rug is a show stopper too. Thanks so much for joining the tour, you’ve created a beautiful summer bedroom.
Your refresh is absolutely fabulous! Love the modern vibe it brings and all of those black touches are stunning!
I love YOUR rug. Your colors are much more vibrant than the Joss and Main. Where did you get it and how much was it?
Hi there! I did get mine from Joss and Main. I think the difference in color is just my photography skills because my bedroom is really heard to shoot. I only have one window for lighting and lots of trees outside. So the room can often have more of a green tint no matter how much I try to correct for truer colors. Sorry about that!
