Kitchen Refresh – Rearrange for a Fabulous Change!

Learn my easy process of updating your home with a kitchen refresh — without breaking the bank!

When I was little girl, starting probably around 10 years old or so, one of my favorite things to do was rearrange my bedroom. I’m pretty sure I drove my mom nuts with this favorite activity of mine. But I loved changing everything around. It was like getting a whole new bedroom even though all the items were the same. That first night going to sleep in a different place in the room was so cool. So this week, I’ve gone back to my childhood. I’ve rearranged a room in my home that some may say is impossible to give a new look without spending a ton of time and money. Well, challenge accepted! My kitchen refresh was complete in an hour and I only spent about $75 bucks!

So let me break down the process so you can give your kitchen a refresh too!

Get A Clean Slate

The first step in giving any room a new look is to remove everything and start clean. So that’s exactly what I did. I took everything off the counters and wiped them down with my absolutely favorite cleaner for Quartz counters. Here’s a few cell phone pics to show you the kitchen completely empty.

It’s great to give your kitchen a deep cleaning like this once a month (but I don’t always have time). So I try to at least once every season. 🙂

Create Convenient Work Areas

Now that the space is clean, it was time to move the items back in. But before I did, I wanted to create working zones. To me, a kitchen works best when these areas are created based on how one cooks. And this is a great time to stop and evaluate what’s working in your space and what isn’t.

For example, I gravitate to this corner when prepping/cooking a meal. This area is right between the stove and sink so everything is easily within reach. I used to keep my cutting boards back by the fridge. But I was constantly carrying them over to this corner. Why make more work for myself. Crazy! So the first working station I organized back into the kitchen was the cutting boards

Then the next station I created was my kitchen tools. This tray was already in my kitchen and it’s placement was perfect. No need to change what’s working. So the only thing different here is I removed the plant and placed it over by the cutting boards.

I love the rearranged look of this corner. It’s now very functional for me to cook but also has a fun new style. 🙂

Swap and Shop

So this is how you give your kitchen a new look without spending hardly any money. I decided to swap a few things in my kitchen. Our coffee machine has always, always been in the right corner of our kitchen next to the sink. This placement was practical, as the coffee mugs are in the cabinet above and water is close by for filling the maker.

But to this I say, what the heck! Let’s move it and see if we like it. So I swapped the coffee maker for the canisters.

And then I shopped my home for a new tray for the coffee maker to sit on. It’s a little more narrow but a tiny bit wider which I think looks better on the counter. 🙂

So will this new arrangement be better? Time will tell and then I might do some swapping again. But really, there’s no harm in giving some items in your kitchen a new home.

Add New Accessories

For this kitchen refresh, I did add a couple of new items to the space as well. There’s a new planter by the cutting boards and a new rug! This rug selection may have shocked you, it kinda did me. It definitely surprised Chris!  The jury is still our on whether or not he likes it. 🙂

But here’s the thing, I purchased this particular rug for two reasons. One, it was very reasonably priced. And two, I needed a change. I think it’s good to change our decor style every now and then. I’ve been feeling lately like I’m in a decor ‘holding pattern’.

I know change can be scary but I challenge you to take a little risk here and there. Without a few decor updates over the years, we would all still have green and yellow kitchen from the 70’s. 🙂

My vote on the rug? I think I like it. It’s totally different – yes. But I feel the colors in the rug compliment my gray cabinets nicely. So I am going with it for now. I’d love to know what you think about it too. Do you like the style or color?

This little kitchen refresh took me all of about an hour from start to finish. And I’m really happy with the new rearranged look!

I even added a fresh new tulip eucalyptus floral arrangement in one of my favorite vases to complete the refresh. I’m going to be talking more about that tomorrow. I have a method on how to get a gorgeous arrangement — every time. So stay tuned!

  1. Leave the rug, its beautiful. I love vintage Persian rugs in the kitchen and baths. They are so great when everything else looks new to add a touch of something vintage. Keep it, you won’t be sorry.

  2. I’m not a fan of the rug but I know they are very popular ( my daughter in law would love it )
Love the tray your coffee maker is on, where did you get it?
Your kitchen make over looks amazing ! love everything about it !!

  3. The subtle colors of the rug go well with your color palette and soften the overall look of your kitchen.

    1. Thank you! The rug was a different choice than my normal style but I really grew to love it in the kitchen. 🙂
