DIY: Christmas Advent Calendar

|
I know Friday’s are usually reserved for Friday’s Fantastic Finds.
But I am flying out today and I wanted too share with you
this special Christmas craft before it gets to late in the holiday season.

Every year at Christmas I start wishing I had made my son an Advent Calendar.

I see all these awesome ones on Pinterest and I think why don’t I do that.
Well this year I finally did it. It was so simple, I’m kicking myself that I didn’t make it sooner!

This DIY Christmas Advent Calendar is so easy to make, even your children can help. A great way to countdown to the Christmas holiday!

I just love the simplicity of this calendar!
I used the same frame from my Autumn Chalkboard Sign
and just printed out a new chalkboard sign for the calendar.
(Directions for making the frame and printing this image in poster size
can be found at my Autumn Chalkboard tutorial as well)
Which by the way, is yours for the printing!
Just right click on the above image and save to your computer. My gift to you! 🙂

The rest of the steps to making this calendar were super simple…

I just placed my new printable right over the top of my old one.
Yes, it was a little lazy, but that’s how I roll! 🙂

Then I added my baker’s twine across the board, using my tags to measure distance.
I just used some Frog tape on the back to secure them.

Once I had that done it was time to number my tags.
I just used some white number stickers I found at Hobby Lobby.
And luckily, I was blessed to have a little helper put them on for me. 🙂
Makes this calendar even more special for this momma.

To attach the tags to the bakers twine, I used these cute little red clothespins
that I found at Hobby Lobby. They’re so adorable, aren’t they?

I decided I would write each day’s special activity on the back of each tag.
So all my little man has to do is simply flip a tag over and discover the surprise!
I wanted to have some presents to decorate around the calendar,
so I wrapped a few and placed them on my console table.
That’s what I call Christmas multitasking! 🙂 Oh ya!

Do you use a Christmas advent Calendar in your home?
I would love to hear how you countdown to Christmas!

  1. I love this! I say every year that I am going to do an advent calender with the kids but never get around to it. Maybe we will try this. I love how decorative it is. Thanks for sharing! #turnituptuesday

  2. I absolutely love this country looking Advent Calendar Laura! I am crazy for all things Chalkboard and country so this was right up my alley 🙂 Thanks for linking it up to the Bewitchin’ Projects Block last week; you were one of my featured picks over at Recreated Designs. Hugs, Lisa

  3. This is a really great blog. I’m doing all of my Christmas gifts as DIY, from re-purposed items on hand, or things I have scrounged out of neighbors kitchens as I visit them while they are in the act of throwing something away that can be used. Best find so far in my life has been miles of hemp rope/string they were throwing away during renovation of the building I live in. Getting the individual chords unwrapped is not much fun, but the end result is oh so nice. And the savings alone have me set for life. Now if only I could find some burlap bags (she says longingly, remembering all the ones she used to turn her nose up at in the good old days on the farm).

  4. I love everything about this and will be starting a new tradition this year! =) You are my Feature pick for Turn It Up Tuesday! Thank you for sharing this with us.
