Simple Ways to Decorate the Master Bedroom for Spring

Learn how to easily decorate the master bedroom for spring with just a few accessories!

In Colorado, March is usually the month when we get the craziest winter weather. Blizzards? Sure. Two feet of snow in one day? Yep. As you might image, it can be a little challenging to instantly make the flip to spring decorating during this time. Especially in the bedroom when temps outside are still often below freezing at night! So this year, I decided to decorate the master bedroom for spring with a mix of seasonal items. Plus I wanted to challenge myself to keep the budget low and mostly shop my own home. Once I finished decorating this room and took a step back, I’ve been pretty happy with the results.

If you’re looking for some easy ways to transition your home into spring, I have teamed up with Krista from The Happy Housie and many other fabulous bloggers to give you an amazing spring home tour. If you are visiting from Amber Tysl, welcome! I’m so glad to have you here. So let’s start this spring home tour off with the simple ways I decorated our master bedroom for spring! Start with Neutral Bedding

For the bedding, I stayed with neutral colors for two reasons. One, neutral bedding is a good foundation for any color or season. And two, I wanted to use bedding I already owned -which is all very neutral. You may be shocked to still see my velvet bedding in my spring decor themed bedroom. But we still use that quilt every night and it seemed silly to remove it. When we get to mid-April or early May, the velvet will definitely go away.

To say I wasn’t tempted to buy a new duvet cover would be a lie. I went shopping at Pottery Barn a couple weeks ago and actually found a really pretty cover on sale. It was in my hands for like my whole visit. Until I stumbled upon an accessory that I knew could be the star of this spring master bedroom refresh for half the price. With great restraint, I managed to put it back. Aren’t you proud of me? Chris is! 😉

Accessorize with Colorful Throw

One colorful throw can do wonders for changing the look of a bedroom. You know my home is full of mostly gray and whites. But when I saw this soft blue throw, I fell in love. It is on the bright side – but I knew it would nicely compliment some new tossed pillows I bought a few weeks back. And I think this striking pop of blue says we ain’t in winter no more. (Or at least we are trying to leave the cold behind us.)

Play with Pretty Pillows

I’ll be the first to admit I have a problem when it comes to buying pillows. I’m like a kid in a candy store. Except for me it’s Target with rows and rows of pillows. They’re so soft and pretty, plus they’re needed in every room in the house. Am I right?! So when I was cruising through Target one evening and I saw these embroidered blue floral pillows, they instantly just fell into my shopping cart.

I’d stopped looking once I had those two pillows. I did. Because those two toss pillows were exactly what I needed to create a lovely spring bedroom. But then out of the corner of my eye I saw a blue striped pillow and it was on sale too. Dang you Target! The perfect blue trio (what I like to call them) was the pillow combination that I needed (had to have really) for our bed. They just belong together and who was I to separate them. So now they grace me every morning when I make my bed and I ain’t mad about it. 😉

To add a touch of blue to the other side of the room I found a pillow from my own stash. So basically this spring master bedroom has something old, something new, something blue — I just need something burrowed for it to be like a wedding up in here! (But that’s not the look I’m going for in here.)

Add a Touch of Texture

I love adding a little texture to the room as well. In the master bedroom I did this in a couple different ways. A simple weaved basket full of soft throws adds some nice texture to the bedroom sitting area.

Keeping plants alive in our home is always a challenge for me, but when I put them in the bedroom is extra tricky. There’s not as much natural sunlight and we like to use our blackout shades often. So to add some more texture to this space, I placed a vase of faux eucalyptus branches on my night stand. On my husband’s side of the bed, I added a real shamrock plant. I found him at Trader Joe’s last week for only $5 bucks. Hopefully, he will live a long time, but if not I’m only out five bucks! You just can’t beat the additional texture plants add to a room.

And I didn’t even notice this until I started writing this post. But apparently my son is trying to help me decorate for spring by adding some green to our room too. If you take a closer look under our bed corner in the below picture you’ll see a green puzzle piece. That boy gets stuff all over the house. At least he stayed within the spring color theme. 😉

  1. I love your room! I think the velvet is perfect for this time of year…it sounds like you have the same kind of weather that we do, so I completely understand the need to still keep things cozy and warm, yet fresh.
