Christmas in the Basement
Enjoy a fun holiday tour featuring Christmas in the basement – lot’s of festive inspiration!
It’s Christmas home tour time- are ya excited?! Once again, I’ve teamed up with the lovely Marty from A Stroll Thru Life along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our holiday home décor with you. This is one of my favorite tours to be in! And I’m always so grateful to be included with such a talented group of ladies. So if you are hopping over from Designing Vibes, welcome!
If this is your first time visiting here, let me introduce myself. I’m Laura and I live in Colorado with my husband and my two boys. I’ve been writing here at Inspiration for moms for almost 12 years now. (Shock! I can’t believe it’s been that long.) And today I’m so happy to share with you our holiday home tour.
For this tour, we are heading right inside to our basement. 🙂 I’m super, super excited to share this room with you because just until a few months ago, our basement was really an unused area of our home. But I did some minor remodeling and a lot of painting and redesigning to create a space we now use daily. If you’d like to read about the whole before and after transformation, click HERE.
So after having said all of that, let me show how this space looks now with simple Christmas touches.
Basement Christmas Lounge Area
Before, this of the room had an old kitchen table that was piled high with miscellaneous stuff. But now it’s a cozy lounge area with great seating. And it’s where we have been enjoying all the classic Christmas movies. I’ve already watched Christmas Vacation about 5 times down here. Heck, I was even playing it while I was decorating this whole room! 🙂
This little corner back by the couch was the perfect place for our skinny flocked Christmas tree. I hadn’t planned on decorating with red at all this year. But when I started pulling out my Christmas decorations, I just nonchalantly tossed a red pillow on the couch. One look and I has hooked! So right then I decided I would decorate the basement with black, white and red.
So for the tree, I decorated it with some black and white ornaments. And then for a little pop of red, I used several pretty red berry twigs.
More Christmas in the Basement Decorations Throughout
To the left of the tree is where our long three-person desk sits. Remember me talking about the movie Christmas Vacation? Well, I had to have a little fun with our light box. Every time I hear Eddie say this line in the movie, I have to laugh. Every time!
Here’s a better view of the desk area. For Christmas I added a few white ceramic house to the wall shelves and some mine trees. And just to add some red to that area, I placed a pair of lanterns at the end of the long desk.
Over in the game and art area, I placed the mini houses Advent calendar that I made. It was such a fun Advent calendar to build and my boys have been loving it. If you missed the tutorial on how to make it – you can find step-by-step by clicking HERE.
And to think this area of the room was just storing boxes. UGH! But now we have such a great place to draw, craft, play board games and read books. It’s so crazy that it took us this long to utilize this space BUT I’m so glad we finally are!

I hope you enjoyed this holiday home tour of our basement. Don’t forget to pin this for later!
Actually, most of our home is decorated now for the holidays. Our living room also has a very simple holiday décor feel. No pops of red, but still very twinkly. 🙂

Laura — love the basement tour and the pops of color and all the great details that you have inspired us with! Keep it up! Also, quick question — does the lightbox you noted above come with the letters to create the messages or do you have to buy them separately – and if so where? THANKS and Happy New Year in 2021!
