How To Fail At A Summer Wreath Tutorial

|

Generally in life, doing the right thing is hard. But sometimes doing the right thing is just too easy! Here is the story of how a summer wreath tutorial turned into a little less of a tutorial – despite my best efforts.

You know I don’t shy away from DIY projects. My kitchen is a prime example. I painted the cabinets, installed the subway tile, farmhouse sink and the wood flooring. Those are not small projects right. So obviously I like to do it myself. And I really had ever intention of showing you a full DIY tutorial on how to make this gorgeous fern summer wreath.

So what happened? Let me tell you the story. A couple months back, I found a super pretty fern wreath by Ann on Pinterest and instantly loved it. It was so similar to the look I want to create for the front porch this summer: simply all ferns. So creating a fern wreath for the front door seemed like the perfect touch! I went out last Thursday to shop for all my supplies. I knew I would need a grapevine wreath (which I already had) plus some fern garland and then maybe a dainty white flower.

The first store I went to had no fern garland. None. So I drove to another craft store in town. Now here’s where the tutorial part takes a crazy turn.

I found some fern garland. Yes! But guess what I found right next to the fern garland? A fern wreath. A super pretty fern wreath already made. A fern wreath just like the one I was going to make. I mean — exactly! But I wasn’t at the store to buy a wreath. No! I was going to create a tutorial just like I planned. So obviously, I just needed to buy the garland, go home and make the wreath.

Well, that was the plan….before I started doing the math on how much it was going to cost. So the wreath was on sale for 40% off. The garland was full price. So that meant if I bought the garland I needed to make the wreath, I would pay double the price of the ‘already made’ wreath.

So I stood there in the middle of the isle thinking, buy or make. Buy or make?

I think you know how this story is going to end. Yep, I bought the already made one and picked up some faux dainty flowers. This summer wreath needed just a tiny pop of white. 🙂

If the cost would have been the same, I totally would have made my wreath in a heart beat. So yes, the tutorial part of this post is missing. Instead I shared with you a funny story of how a simple summer wreath tutorial became way easier than even I planned! 😉

Even though I didn’t give a step by step tutorial, I did share what you need to make your own. Below I linked the items if you want to make it or if you just want to buy one (maybe on sale 😉 ) and just add a little personal touch. (Affiliate links included)
