How To Fail At A Summer Wreath Tutorial
Generally in life, doing the right thing is hard. But sometimes doing the right thing is just too easy! Here is the story of how a summer wreath tutorial turned into a little less of a tutorial – despite my best efforts.
You know I don’t shy away from DIY projects. My kitchen is a prime example. I painted the cabinets, installed the subway tile, farmhouse sink and the wood flooring. Those are not small projects right. So obviously I like to do it myself. And I really had ever intention of showing you a full DIY tutorial on how to make this gorgeous fern summer wreath.
So what happened? Let me tell you the story. A couple months back, I found a super pretty fern wreath by Ann on Pinterest and instantly loved it. It was so similar to the look I want to create for the front porch this summer: simply all ferns. So creating a fern wreath for the front door seemed like the perfect touch! I went out last Thursday to shop for all my supplies. I knew I would need a grapevine wreath (which I already had) plus some fern garland and then maybe a dainty white flower.
The first store I went to had no fern garland. None. So I drove to another craft store in town. Now here’s where the tutorial part takes a crazy turn.
I found some fern garland. Yes! But guess what I found right next to the fern garland? A fern wreath. A super pretty fern wreath already made. A fern wreath just like the one I was going to make. I mean — exactly! But I wasn’t at the store to buy a wreath. No! I was going to create a tutorial just like I planned. So obviously, I just needed to buy the garland, go home and make the wreath.
Well, that was the plan….before I started doing the math on how much it was going to cost. So the wreath was on sale for 40% off. The garland was full price. So that meant if I bought the garland I needed to make the wreath, I would pay double the price of the ‘already made’ wreath.
So I stood there in the middle of the isle thinking, buy or make. Buy or make?
I think you know how this story is going to end. Yep, I bought the already made one and picked up some faux dainty flowers. This summer wreath needed just a tiny pop of white. 🙂
If the cost would have been the same, I totally would have made my wreath in a heart beat. So yes, the tutorial part of this post is missing. Instead I shared with you a funny story of how a simple summer wreath tutorial became way easier than even I planned! 😉
Even though I didn’t give a step by step tutorial, I did share what you need to make your own. Below I linked the items if you want to make it or if you just want to buy one (maybe on sale 😉 ) and just add a little personal touch. (Affiliate links included)

Could you share your source for the wreath you purchased? Thanks!
Hi Diane! I purchased mine at Michaels. Here’s the link: https://www.michaels.com/mixed-greenery-and-leaves-wreath-by-ashland/10547487.html
Oh my goodness. This is me. All the time. I love it! Haha. Truthfully the best solution is almost always the simplest, isn’t it? I love your fern wreath and have pinned it to my wreaths board. xo Tauni
Love the ferns. Greenery always wins in my book!
Sometimes it pays just to cheat a little. 😉 But the white flowers make it your own. And why not, we don’t always have time to make things from scratch. Thanks for sharing. I love ferns.
LOVE THIS! You’re so clever. And it’s adorable!
Your wreath turned out so great!! I love all of the greenery!
I pinned it to my Summer Board.
Thanks, Jennifer! 🙂
I would have purchase the fern base as well. It’s gorgeous!
You added your personal touches and made the wreath your own AND saved money in the process! It’s gorgeous and yours alone. I would love to have it hanging on my door! Good for you!
I love it! You did basically what I did lol!! Love the pop of green and white on your beautiful porch. Pinned! So fun to be on this tour with you. xo Heather
Hahaha! This happens to me all the time…I see something that I love and it ends up being way cheaper than something else I envisioned to make! You made a good decision buying the already made wreath…it’s fun to take something done and make it our own!
