Six On Saturday: New Uses For Aluminum Foil

We all know that aluminum foil is great for covering those dinner leftovers. But did you know that same shiny wrap can do more than save your meatloaf?

Discover six new uses for aluminum foil that won’t leave you foiled. 😉

1) Sharpen your scissors. Smooth them out if necessary, and then fold the strips into several layers and start cutting. Seven or eight passes should do the trick. Pretty simple, huh?

2) Speed up your ironing. Put a piece of aluminum foil under your ironing board cover. The foil will reflect the heat back through the clothing, smoothing wrinkles quicker.

3) Keep matches dry. It’s a tried-and-true soldier’s trick worth remembering: Wrap your kitchen matches in aluminum foil to keep them from getting damp or wet on camping trips.

4) Scrub your pots. Don’t have a scrub pad? Crumple up a handful of aluminum foil and use it to scrub your pots.

5) Line roller pans. Cleaning out paint roller pans is a pain, which is why a lot of folks buy disposable plastic pans or liners. But lining a metal roller pan with aluminum foil works just as well — and can be a lot cheaper. ( I totally going to do this on my next painting project!)

6) As an antenna. If your TV is stacked on top of your DVD player (or vice versa) and the picture is fuzzy, the two electromagnetic fields may commingling, confusing the signals. Slip a sheet of foil in between the two machines to separate the fields.
