How To Make Grocery Store Flowers Look Expensive
A beautiful floral arrangement doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Learn how to make grocery store flowers look expensive with all of my best tips and tricks!
Who doesn’t want beautiful floral arrangements throughout their home? For years I used to skip by the floral section in the grocery store because I didn’t want to waste money on flowers. Plus, I didn’t even really like the cheaper prearranged flower packages the store offered. But once I discovered how to make those grocery store flowers look expensive and more to my liking on the cheap, I was hooked.
And now I can’t venture into the grocery store without buying some flowers! The cashiers always ask, ‘Are these flowers for you or a special occasion?’ I love to answer, ‘For me!’ And they always reply, ‘Good for you!’ Life is really too short to not stop and buy the grocery store flowers. So today I want to share all my tips and tricks so you too can create a lovely floral arrangement and still have money left over for your actual groceries! 🙂
There are basically three tips I like to follow when shopping for grocery store flowers.
One, I purposely keep the flower color simple. I like to pick one color for my flowers. You may have just gasped at that step! But my reason is that I don’t want the flowers to compete. I want the flowers to steal the show and wow me! Sometimes I may include more than one flower but still keep them all in the same color pallet.
Two, I use lots of greenery. This is where grocery store flowers really lack in my opinion. My absolute favorite green to pair with my grocery store flowers is eucalyptus. I’m drawn to it like a moth to a flame. It’s elegant, the leaves have such pretty shapes and it just adds so much lovely depth and texture to any floral arrangement.
And finally the third step is to choose a creative vase. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just different with some style of it’s own to offer to the floral arrangement look.
So now that you know my three shopping tips, let me show you how I assemble my grocery store flowers.
For this arrangement I used some pink roses, lots of eucalyptus (silver dollar and seeded), baby’s breath, a small glass cylinder, scotch tape and some scissors. I applied the scotch tape to the top of my cylinder in a grid like pattern to give all the stems extra support in the vase. You can skip this if you like but I find it helps keep everything right where you want it. 🙂
I start filling my vase with my greenery first. I start out with inserting it mostly symmetrical around the vase. But if I am using seeded eucalyptus, I like to insert the biggest bunches on opposite sides of the vase.
Next up is my flowers. I start inserting those in the middle and just work my way out. Using the scissors, I trim the stems by about two-four inches depending on the vase.
There was only one bouquet of roses in this color at the grocery store so my arrangement has more ‘open spaces’ then I would really prefer. (I would have totally bought two rose bouquets -they were only $4.99!) But I think this arrangement still looks pretty fab because of the baby’s breath. It helped a ton in filling up some of those gaps.
And the very last step was finding that stylin’ vase. I thought a basket would be so pretty so I stole this fun basket from a house plant and the rest is history!
So once you put those shopping tips and arrangement steps all together, this is the look you can achieve. Not too shabby for an arrangement costing a grand total of $13.96!
