Creative Storage Ideas for Your Home
Keep your home tidy with creative storage ideas! I’m sharing tons of great options for smaller homes with limited storage space.
Do you remember that little reader survey I did at the beginning of the year? Well, one of my questions on the survey was what’s a diy or topic you would like me to tackle. And one of the answers I received was this: ‘I would love to see ways to use furniture for dual uses and unique, creative storage solutions.’
I’m always up for a little creative storage talk! So today, I’m sharing a ton of creative ways to store items in your entryway, living room, kitchen and bedroom.
But before we start incorporating creative storage ideas into our homes, we need to ask ourselves a few questions. One, do I actually need to store this item? And two, is this just something that’s cluttering my home? Not sure what the answer is? Try this exercise. Buy a few clear storage containers that can be come ‘Goodwill Candidates’. These items will go into the storage bins and be revisited a year later to see if you can actually live without them. Then you will have your answer of what to keep and donate.
Now having said that, we can focus on the things we need to store. Every home has items we need on a day-to-day basis but don’t necessary want to look at all day long. I’m talking about those remote controls or kids shoes or even those readers this lady needs in every room of the house. 🙂
Let’s start with the first space guests enter when then come into your home.
Entryway Storage
Small boxes and big baskets are so helpful in the entryway. Keys and vehicle fobs are perfect for a small decorative box. And large baskets or small ottomans are perfect for guests to store their shoes.
If your entryway has room, a nice entry bench can provide storage and a place for guests to sit to remove shoes or coats.
If your front entry way is the only door to your home, you can also hide other daily items here. A dog leash can easily be tucked away inside a large canister for easy access. Remember, the point of creative storage is to give items new uses. Think outside the storage! 🙂

Now, let’s find ways to store some items in the living room.
Living Room Storage
The are so many fabulous ways to store items in the living room. Again, decorative boxes (hide those remotes) and big baskets (think throws or extra pillows) are great for this room. But don’t forget — furniture can be super helpful as well when it comes to storage.
Ottomans with hidden storage are perfect for cozy throws. Book shelves or bedroom dressers can also be a great storage pieces for a living room. They can serve as book storage or for hiding away all those electronics.

Now let’s move on to one of my favorite rooms in the home – the kitchen.
Kitchen Storage
There are a ton of ways to get creative when it comes to kitchen storage. My all time favorite is using trays to corral like items in one place. But another great option is to use the wall space! A great wall rack can easily store all your kitchen cooking utensils.
Baskets are great for storing potatoes or onions. And canisters can store more than just flour – they’re perfect for cookies or even tea bags!

And last but not least, let’s chat about bedroom storage.
Bedroom Storage
In the bedroom trays are great for reading glasses, jewelry or watches. And baskets are great in here for small clothing garments like scarfs, socks or even slippers.
A trunk or bench at the end of the bed is great for extra bedding like blankets , quilts or pillows. And don’t forget to take advantage of the space under the bed! It’s a great place for storing seasonal items with an under-bed basket.
