Christmas Porch 2018

Pops of red with plaid add holiday cheer to this Christmas porch!

One of my favorite places to decorate isn’t even in my house. It’s my outside porch area. It’s so crazy that I didn’t even start decorating this area until about two years after we moved in! But now, I’ve been updating it’s look every few months or so. Everyone who visits our home from friends, family or even neighbors always comment about how nice the front porch looks. So, I love that I’m able to share it with you too! Today I’m also joining the lovely Taryn from TarynWhiteaker and some other seriously talented bloggers to share a ton of Christmas porch decor that’s sure to inspire.

My theme this year for the Christmas porch was hints of red with tartan plaid. I have never decorated with such a bold pattern before but I love how it turned out!

The Corner Seating Area

Over at the seating area, I decorated with a few tartan plaid pillows with some beautiful red chunky chenille cable knit throw pillows. I love the pop of red they add to the seating bench at the back corner of the porch. It’s kinda like a cheery surprise when you come around the corner from the front door. 😉

On the back porch wall, I added some Christmas green with a fresh boxwood wreath from Trader Joe’s. To give it some contrast, I placed a galvanized village house in the center of the wreath. Sometimes it’s the simplest details that really make the prettiest decorations.

For the chair opposite of the bench, I placed another plaid pillow and also added a fun JOY pillow for a playful contrast. No home can ever have too many pillows, right?!

The Front Door Area

Around the front door I flanked two black urns filled with some decorative greenery sprays. I love the pop of contrast they added to my layered rug/mat combo. A bright red Jingle mat couldn’t be more perfect for a Christmas porch. And of course, I had to add a few lanterns to this area too. The red ones are smaller but add a ton of fun color to the front step!

In a few months, I promise you that rug is going to be switched out and placed inside our home. It’s such a pretty neutral gray color and I love the pattern detailing. I just know it’s going to work well in a couple of different rooms. That’s the beauty of indoor/outdoor rugs — they’re just so versatile!

Finish With Some Joy

On the left side of the door, I added a huge beautiful wreath with two oversized wooden letters to spell out JOY. Just a little extra surprise for those that greet my door.  🙂

Now that the whole door and porch are all ready for Christmas, I need to hang the outdoor lights. I’m hoping to get those up before December arrives but it’s going to be close. 😉
