Create a super fun Buffalo Check Pumpkin Candy Holder for your Halloween treats!

__________

If you have been following my blog this Fall, you know I am in love with buffalo check and pumpkins. So when I started thinking about putting my own fun spin on this project, I had to incorporate both. Check out my Buffalo Check Pumpkin Candy Holder!

Isn’t that so fun?! This month the Home Depot’s is hosting a DIH Workshop where you will be able to make your own Candy Holder. This project isn’t just for the trick-or-treaters. I think this candy holder would be great for an adult costume party too!  So here’s the details on when and where you can make yours:

Register for the DIHWorkshop at Home Depot!

This project required basically two items: plywood and paint! So easy, right?!

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 x 2 plywood
  • Mixing container
  • Paint

Tools Required:

Painting the buffalo check pattern is pretty easy. You will need three coordinating paint colors. Starting with the dark stripe, I used Deep Onyx . For the medium stripe I mixed the Deep Onyx at 25%. And the for light stripe, I mixed one part of the medium paint with one part white (Simply White).

Now that you know about the paint, let me show you how to paint the buffalo check pattern. A little tip: Painters tape will be your best friend with this paint project! 😉

Step 1: Paint plywood pumpkin white for base coat. Next, draw grid with pencil.

Step 2: Then tape off the lines horizontal to paint lightest stripe first.

Step 3: Tape off vertical lines for medium paint stripes. Then it’s time for the last step.

Step 4: Using the darkest paint, paint the squares where the vertical and horizontal lines interest.

Step 5: Fill with candy and enjoy!

And that is pretty much it. Once it was dry, I lightly sanded the whole pumpkin to give it a little softer look. You know your little trick-or-treaters will love this candy holder sitting on your front door step…so be sure and register to attend this Thursday’s (Oct 19) DIH Workshop!
