Autumn Inspired Shelves + Autumn Chalkboard Printable

It took me awhile to finish my fall shelves this year but at last, they are done.
An elegant Autumn poem and a few touches of gold were my inspiration.
When I started thinking about my fall decorations,
I knew I wanted a big chalkboard sign with a quote about Autumn to be the focal point.

I thought about creating another amazing chalkboard sign like this one from Christmas.
But I wanted to give you a gift to celebrate this wonderful new season.
So I decided to make a chalkboard printable sign that you can print
and display in your very own home!

The steps to making this chalkboard sign could not be easier.
It’s almost as easy as 1, 2, 3.
Print your sign, build your frame, assemble.

Don’t worry. I am not going to just leave it at that and end this post. 🙂
I’ve got the details and pictures to show you the whole process.
Make this simple Autumn Chalkboard printable for your fall home decor!

The first step was to get my picture printed at Staples.

I explained how I did this with my chalkboard sign tutorial, but I’ll share again.

I went online and downloaded the print to Staples copy and print center,

selected the link Oversized Prints, then clicked on Engineering Prints.
I selected  the 18 x  24 size and black and white print.
I completed my order online and then picked it up the next day at the store.

Now I know what you are thinking…
“A print that size must have been super expensive, right?!”

Nope. It set me back a whole $1.83!
Simple.

Once I had my print, I grabbed my old chalkboard sign
made from 1/4 inch birchwood plywood (18 x 24).
Yep. I’m sure you can tell its been a little mistreated hanging out in the garage,
but I’m going to cover that all up! 🙂

I took my large chalkboard print and taped it to the board with some Frog Tape.

Next step is to build your frame for the sign.
Nothing fancy here, just a simple frame to complete the look.
I went to Lowes and grabbed some Sierra Pine 2×4 primed wood cut to 20.5 x 22.

While I was at Lowes. I picked up some braces to connect the wood.

Use your braces to attach the boards together.

Little Tip: I didn’t use the screws that came with the braces.
I actually used them to screw the back board on to the frame,
which is the last step in the project.
For the braces, I found some shorter screws in my garage.
I was just afraid that the brace screws might be too long and
come through the wood to the front side of the frame.

I screwed the board to the frame in all the corners and
a few places down each side of the board.
That’s it. Super simple right!

Anyone can make this because it requires no power tools.
I had the wood cut at Lowes and I just used a regular hand screwdriver for all the screws.
 I just love the quote:

“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.”
The quote inspired me to add some little touches of my own gold to the display.
I got my decoupage groove on with a gold leaf plate.

And I decoupaged a little pumpkin to gold perfection. 🙂

I love the way my Autumn shelves came together this year.
Simple but with a little flash of gold. Just like the Autumn season.

So have you started decorating for fall?
