Summer Porch Decor Ideas: Black and White

Looking for some easy summer porch decor ideas? Create a beautiful, relaxing retreat with the classic colors; black and white.

Summer is here and if you are looking for me, you’ll find me on the front porch. It’s simply one of my favorite places to sit in the evening. Decorating this space is pretty fun for me too! This summer…it’s all about black and white decor. It’s a classic modern combo that makes my heart skip a beat!

Today, I’m honored to join my friend, Krista from the Happy Housie and so many other talented bloggers for a summer edition of Seasonal Simplicity. My summer porch decor ideas are not only simple but easy on the bank account too!

OUTDOOR TEXTILES — Let’s talk rugs and pillows!

My inspiration for my new summer porch decor all started with this black and white outdoor rug. I just love those thick stripes and I knew it would be fun to accessorize.

The block square pillow adds some fun with the striped rug. The other two designs balance out all the stripes. Even though there’s a bunch of different patterns, the neutral black and white colors makes it work together perfectly. I wanted to leave all the color for my favorite outdoor plants.

OUTDOOR PLANTS — Bring on the green with ferns and hydrangeas!

I have loved ferns ever since my college days when I lived in Texas. In that state I think it’s mandatory for every front porch to have a fern! Here in Colorado, it’s so much harder to keep them alive. So this year I got brave and I bought me some ferns — two to be exact. The smaller one sits pretty in a fun white dotted planter.  He seems to be thriving right in that spot…so he’s not moving. 😉

In a black planter next to the door, I planted some blue hydrangeas. I was actually wanting white ones this summer to tie in with my black and white decor, but I couldn’t find any. But, the blue works too. I am a hydrangea lover no matter the color! Just for fun, I also planted some inpatients and a couple potato vines.  I love how full and long those vines can grow — so pretty!

OUTDOOR ACCESSORIES — Lights, signs and water!

I love to set the mood outdoors with candles. A few simple black lanterns and some timer candles adds a nice touch of light to the small porch area. The neutral black color of these lanterns allows me to use them through all the seasons too.

On the other side of the porch by the front door, I have a fun little ‘hi’ sign that welcomes our guests. I also have another huge Boston fern. I snagged this one at Lowes around Mother’s Day. They had a bunch that day but I only bought one. Then I came home and decided it would be fun to hang a couple on the porch. Went back and they were all gone! So…now I just feel grateful that I actually got this one.

I love how my new white watering can even matches my black and white decor. It’s paying attention to the details even in those little accessories, right?

I think this black and white summer porch decor may be my favorite decor look for this space so far. Now all the porch needs is some sweet summer cocktails and some good friends. Wanna come on over?
