off the wagon, that is. Not completely off, I am still hanging on. More like, being dragged.

I know…this detox only lasted like 5 days. But, it has been a looonnnggg 5 days. I knew detoxing was going to be hard. I knew that I would gets headaches from lack of caffeine. (Which I did, for like 3 days!) I knew I would feel deprived. But I did not know that I would get the worst sleep I have experienced in along time.
My son was a visitor to our bedroom every night. And every time he visits, he ends up climbing in our bed. Which means he will snuggle up next to me and then eventually wake me up with a nice double kick to the back or a hard slap to the face. I will then get up and carry him back to bed, which totally wakes me up! I then try to go back to sleep, only to find that when I finally drift off to sleep, a little hand touches my shoulder and says, “Mom, watcha ya doing?”
Are you kidding me??????
I realize that I should treasure this time when my little guy wants to be near me all the time. I do. But let me tell you, it is extremely hard to do a detox on only 3-4 hours of sleep each night!
I was so exhausted Friday morning! I took the longest shower ever for two reasons; to wake up and to give myself a time out. That’s right…a time out! I was so angry that I couldn’t get good sleep. And I didn’t want to be mad at my son, but I was! So after a long shower, I was able to be a mother again.
I started the day out eating good. I had a hot bowl of quinoa cereal for breakfast. And a nice salad for lunch. But by 5:00 that evening, I was so tired. I just said, “I am done. Let’s get a pizza!”
The last thing I wanted to do was cook and I was hungry. So I decided to add bread and dairy back into my diet. What the heck, I also had a bowl of ice cream!
But you want to know the really funny thing about this whole detox??? Everything is too sweet! When I was eating my ice cream, I actually started to feel sick because it was so sickening sweet. I felt so gross after eating it. And I love ice cream!!
And this morning I had a bowl of Special K cereal and the same thing happened…..too sweet!
So, I decided that I am not off the detox completely. I am going to add bread and dairy back into my diet, but I am going to keep the sugar and caffeine out!!! And I am going to continue to eat as much whole foods as I can.
I realized that if you continuously feed your body junk,it will crave junk. And if you clean it up and eat whole foods, guess what? It will crave that too. Now, you may be reading this right now, saying, “Duh, Laura!” But I was shocked that my body responded so fast in just 5 days.
Oh and by the way, I also weighed myself at the beginning of this detox and I got back on the scale again today. Guess what I was surprised to discover??? I lost 2.5 pounds! Awesome! I like them cookies!!
So my detox will continue, just a little different…on to week 2….
